AUTOMATION

WhatsApp for Make

Add WhatsApp to your Make scenarios. Send approved templates, reply to customers, and start scenarios from inbound messages and delivery updates — visually, with no code.

Overview

Make is a visual automation platform that connects thousands of apps. The WAGate app for Make adds WhatsApp to your scenarios: modules to send an approved template or a plain text message, and instant triggers that fire on every inbound message and every delivery update.

WAGate runs on Meta’s official WhatsApp Cloud API, so what you send from Make follows the same pipeline as the rest of the platform — approved templates, delivery tracking, retries and quality monitoring. You connect your number once, get your templates approved, and Make simply maps data into them.

Why it matters

Make turns WAGate into a visual automation hub for every app in your stack.

Visual scenarios
Drag WhatsApp modules next to any of Make’s apps, with routers, filters and iterators for the logic.
Live template list
The Send module lists your approved templates and their variables, pulled live from your workspace.
Instant triggers
Scenarios start the moment a customer replies or a message is delivered, read or fails — no polling.
One API key
Everything is authenticated with a single WAGate API key that you can revoke at any time.

How to connect Make to WhatsApp

  1. Connect your WhatsApp number

Sign in to WAGate and run Embedded Signup to connect your WhatsApp number. It takes minutes and needs no Meta developer account.

  2. Create an API key

Open Developer Studio → API keys and create a key (it looks like ag_live_sk_...). API keys are available on the Growth and Scale plans.

  3. Add a WAGate module in Make

In a Make scenario, add a WAGate module and click Add to create a connection. Paste your API key; Make verifies it against WAGate.

  4. Pick a module

Choose Send a WhatsApp template message, Send a WhatsApp text message, Watch inbound messages or Watch message status.

  5. Map, test and switch on

Pick a template, map the recipient and variables from earlier modules, run the scenario once, then turn it on.

What you can automate

The WAGate app gives Make two actions and two instant triggers. Combine them with any of Make’s apps:

Module Type Example scenario
Send a WhatsApp template message Action New shop order → WhatsApp confirmation
Send a WhatsApp text message Action Reply inside the 24-hour window after a customer writes
Watch inbound messages Instant trigger Customer replies → create a ticket or add a sheet row
Watch message status Instant trigger Failed or read → alert your team or update a record
Tip. Marketing-category templates require customer opt-in before you send. See acceptable use.

Plans & getting started

The Make connection runs on the WAGate API, which is a Growth and Scale feature — both plans include Developer Studio API keys. Starter does not include API keys, so it cannot connect to Make. Compare plans on the pricing page, then start a free trial, connect your number and build your first scenario in minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Make app available today?

It works today: ask us for the install link and add the app to your Make account. It has been submitted to Make for verification, after which it will also appear in Make’s public app directory.

Which WAGate plan do I need for Make?

Make connects through the WAGate API, a Growth or Scale feature that includes Developer Studio API keys. The Starter plan cannot connect.

What can my scenarios send and trigger?

Two actions — an approved template with variables, or plain text inside the 24-hour window — and two instant triggers: new inbound message and message status changed (sent, delivered, read or failed).
